Description
Max arrives on Animal Island and meets Chaffy, a small creature who needs help finding where he belongs. Their search becomes the beginning of a friendship and an introduction to an island filled with unusual neighbours. Jamie Smart’s colourful comic storytelling gives younger readers a clear, lively adventure, mixing things to discover in the pictures with a warm story about welcoming someone new and helping them find a home.
Age suitability and learning: Preschool (3-5), Primary (6-8). Clear comic panels and friendly characters suit preschoolers sharing the story and primary children beginning to read independently. Connecting words with pictures supports sequencing, inference and comprehension, while following the adventure encourages prediction, noticing clues and discussion of helping others.
